German GPA Calculator (Modified Bavarian Formula)
German universities and uni-assist do not read your Indian percentage or CGPA directly. They convert it with the Modified Bavarian Formula onto Germany's 1.0 (best) to 5.0 (fail) scale, where 4.0 is typically the lowest passing grade. The formula
German grade = 1 + 3 × (Max − Your grade) ÷ (Max − Passing minimum)
Worked example
An Indian student with 78% (out of 100, with 40% as the passing minimum) converts to: 1 + 3 × (100 − 78) / (100 − 40) = 2.1 on the German scale, solidly competitive for most Master's programmes.
