Convert Your CGPA, GPA, or Percentage to the German Grading Scale
German universities and uni-assist do not read your Indian percentage or CGPA directly — they convert it using the Modified Bavarian Formula onto Germany's 1.0 (best) to 5.0 (fail) scale, where 4.0 is typically the lowest passing grade.
Select your grading scale and enter your GPA to see the German equivalent.
The formula
German grade = 1 + 3 × (Max − Your grade) ÷ (Max − Passing minimum)
Worked example
An Indian student with 78% (out of 100, with 40% as the passing minimum) converts to: 1 + 3 × (100 − 78) / (100 − 40) = 2.1 on the German scale — solidly competitive for most Master's programmes.
