Studying in Berlin
Capital scale, three flagship unis, startup energy — rooms are the hard part.
About Berlin
Berlin is Germany's largest city and its political, cultural, and startup capital. Humboldt, Freie Universität, and TU Berlin anchor research across humanities, sciences, and engineering. The city is younger and more international than Munich, with a flat rent-control history that still leaves hot competition for WGs. Museums, clubs, and a fragmented borough map mean neighbourhood choice matters.
Student life
Students cluster in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Pankow, and along Ringbahn lines — rarely in Mitte on a budget. The semester ticket covers Berlin's BVG/U-Bahn/S-Bahn network. English gets you through daily life in central districts; Ausländerbehörde and Anmeldung still reward German. Part-time work in tech, media, and hospitality is easier here than in smaller towns.
