Studying in Bonn
Former capital, UN city, compact Rhine living.
About Bonn
Bonn was West Germany's capital until reunification and still hosts UN Climate Change and federal ministries. Universität Bonn is strong in economics, mathematics, and agricultural sciences. The city is greener and quieter than Cologne, 30 minutes north on the Rhine. Beethoven's birthplace adds cultural tourism without Heidelberg-level crowds.
Student life
Poppelsdorf (near the botanical garden campus), Endenich, and Bad Godesberg attract students. Bonn's centre is bike-friendly and smaller than NRW peers. Many students socialise in Cologne on weekends but sleep in Bonn for rent. Studierendenwerk Bonn manages halls; cross-city commuting to Cologne internships is common but costs time.
