Book VFS After CSP Approval: Why the Portal Link Matters (India, 2026)

You finished CSP, fixed whatever they asked for, and your file is approved. Next step: book VFS. This is where many Indian students lose weeks—not because documents are wrong, but because they open the wrong booking page.

What usually goes wrong: You go to the public VFS site, pick Studies with APS, and see no dates. You refresh for days and assume slots are gone forever.

What often works: You click the Book appointment button inside CSP (digital.diplo.de). VFS opens with your file already linked. You may see Studies with APS – CSP approved (wording varies by city)—and dates show up.

This guide explains that difference. We link to official embassy and VFS pages, and note what students report on Reddit and forums. Slot availability still changes daily—nothing here guarantees a date—but the booking path matters.

The order: CSP first, then VFS

Official sources agree on the sequence:

Germany in India says study visas on CSP must go through that portal. You get the VFS booking link only after CSP review. If you book VFS without finishing CSP, the appointment may not be accepted.

The VFS CSP PDF puts it simply: use the booking link from CSP after review—not a random VFS bookmark.

When review is done, you should see a notification in CSP (email may also arrive). The Book appointment button lives in your CSP dashboard.

Two ways students try to book (only one usually works)

Path A: Public VFS website (the trap)

1. Go to visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/deu/book-an-appointment directly.
2. Create a VFS account, enter passport and APS details carefully.
3. Choose a student category such as Studies with APS (exact label varies by VAC).
4. Calendar shows no dates—sometimes for weeks.

Many students think India has zero slots, or that they need an agent. Often they are simply on the wrong booking path (public site before CSP is linked).

Path B: Link from CSP (after approval)

1. CSP shows your file is reviewed / approved.
2. Click Book appointment on digital.diplo.de—not a Google result for “VFS Germany.”
3. VFS opens with your CSP application already attached.
4. You may see Studies with APS – CSP approved (or similar—screenshot it; labels differ by city).
5. Dates often appear in the same week Path A showed nothing.

Embassy pages do not always show this exact label. But the logic matches official rules: CSP-approved files use a separate booking pool. The generic Studies with APS line on the public site may have no slots released for your situation.

Bottom line: If CSP is done and the public site still shows zero dates, go back to CSP and use its booking button before paying an agent.

How to book after CSP approval

1. Check CSP status

Log in to digital.diplo.de. Your file should show review complete and any fixes done. Still “under review”? Wait—booking on public VFS early usually does not help.

2. Use the link from CSP

Open the Book appointment button in your CSP dashboard. Do not rely on an old VFS link from a friend or YouTube.

3. New email and phone on VFS (if asked)

VFS’s CSP journey PDF says CSP bookers should register with an email and phone not used before on VFS.

Common setup:

• CSP: your main email on digital.diplo.de
• VFS booking: second email + number (not tied to an old Schengen booking)

If registration fails, trying a fresh pair often fixes it.

4. Pick the CSP category when you see it

If both appear:

• Studies with APS (generic)
• Studies with APS – CSP approved (or similar)

Choose the CSP line if you completed CSP. Wrong category = turned away at the counter (appointment guide).

5. Pay VFS fees when booking

VFS service fee is usually paid online when you book. Embassy visa fee (₹8,500 / €75 for 18+) is typically paid at the appointment. Check the live fee page for your centre.

6. Double-check passport number

A typo on the appointment letter can get you refused at the counter. Match the passport you will carry.

Still no dates after the CSP link?

That can still happen near peak intake (before October or April). Official advice: keep checking—new slots drop in batches (FFO FAQ).

Tips students share (no guarantees):

• Try early morning or late evening IST
• Use Chrome or Firefox on desktop
• Confirm the VAC matches your home state, not your university city
• Do not book Schengen or work categories “just to get any date”

“Asking for an earlier slot because semester starts soon” usually does not work unless the mission’s hardship rules apply (India visa FAQ).

Premium Lounge: worth it?

You may hear “get Premium Lounge—it helps a lot.” Here is the straight version.

What it is: An optional extra on VFS fee pages (roughly ₹2,400–2,700 in Delhi). Nicer waiting area, sometimes a dedicated counter, drinks. Not required for your visa.

What it does not do:

• Does not make the embassy approve faster
• Does not improve your chances
• Does not fix a wrong CSP or VFS category

Embassy processing can still take months after appointment day.

What it might do: Shorter queue inside the centre on a busy day—less token waiting, one counter for docs. Some students like it; others are fine in the regular line.

Watch out: The Indian Express (2025) reported staff pushing lounge and add-ons at Delhi/Mumbai. VFS says these are optional. If you do not want it, you can say no—it should not affect your visa outcome.

Courier and SMS add-ons are the same story: convenience only.

Mistakes to avoid

• CSP-approved category selected when shown
• VAC matches your home state
