Studentenrabatt Deutschland: what counts as proof

Studentenrabatt Deutschland offers (student discounts) all start with proving you are enrolled. Four kinds of proof cover almost everything:

Proof Where you get it Used by
Immatrikulationsbescheinigung (enrolment certificate) University portal, every semester Adobe, ISIC, newspapers, banks
Student ID (Studierendenausweis) University, after enrolment Museums, cinemas, Mensa, theatres
University email University IT account Notion, Figma, GitHub, Microsoft 365
Verification platform account UNiDAYS, Student Beans, iamstudent, SheerID Samsung, Spotify, FlixBus, many online shops

Most discounts need enrolment, not admission. Until you hold the Immatrikulationsbescheinigung, many will reject a Zulassung. See Zulassung vs Immatrikulation.

How to verify your student status

  1. Enrol and download the current Immatrikulationsbescheinigung from the university portal.
  2. Activate your university email.
  3. Create free accounts on UNiDAYS, Student Beans, and iamstudent with the university email.
  4. When a brand asks for SheerID or a document, upload the enrolment certificate as a PDF.
  5. Re-verify each semester or year when asked; many offers expire silently if you do not.

UNiDAYS Germany and other platforms

UNiDAYS Germany and its competitors are free.

Platform In Germany Examples
UNiDAYS Yes, 300+ brands Samsung, FlixBus
Student Beans Yes FlixBus 10%, Nike 10%, streaming deals
iamstudent Yes (iamstudent.de) UCI cinemas verify students through it
SheerID Verification only Spotify

FlixBus has no official student fare, but platform codes exist: UNiDAYS lists 10% in the app and 15% on FlixTrain; Student Beans lists 10%.

ISIC card Germany price

The ISIC card Germany price is €18, valid for one year from the start of the month you apply. It is issued by rds Reisedienst Deutscher Studentenschaften GmbH in Hamburg, the exclusive ISIC representative in Germany. You need a current enrolment certificate (German or English) and a passport-quality photo. A virtual card in the ISIC app is included.

Most German museums and cinemas accept your normal student ID, so ISIC is mainly useful for travel abroad. Under 31 but not a student? The IYTC youth card costs the same. Source: isic.de FAQ.

Tech and software

Apple education discount Germany

The Apple education discount Germany store is about 6% to 8% below normal prices on Macs. Example on 4 October 2026: a MacBook Air configuration at €1,399 normally was €1,289 in the education store. Students, newly admitted students, and parents buying for them qualify, and Apple asks for proof before purchase.

Apple runs a yearly Back to School promotion with a gift card on top (promo). The 2026 edition in Germany started on 13 August and runs until 22 October 2026. Check Apple's education store for the current offer.

Other laptops and phones

  • Samsung: student offers through UNiDAYS, rotating deals.
  • Lenovo: education store, "save 7% or more".
  • Dell, HP: student pages exist; confirm the discount on the page.
  • Refurbished can beat any student discount: see consumer rights and refurbished.

Free software for students

Software What you get Proof
Microsoft 365 Web Office free (A1); many universities give desktop apps University account
GitHub Student Developer Pack GitHub Pro, Copilot for students, partner credits Academic email or document
JetBrains All IDEs, 1 year, renewable, non-commercial use Student verification
Autodesk Free 1-year educational access, renewable Autodesk verification
Notion Education plan free University email only
Figma Professional plan free for 1 year, then re-verify School email
Adobe Creative Cloud Discounted first year, then a reduced price School email or enrolment certificate

Confirm the Adobe price on Adobe's student page; it loads dynamically and changes.

AI tools

Google's Gemini (Google AI Plus) was free for one year for students aged 18 and over in Germany when checked, as a limited-time offer with yearly re-verification and a payment method on file. Read the auto-renewal terms before you sign up (Gemini for students). GitHub Copilot is free through the Student Developer Pack. Do not assume other AI subscriptions have a German student price; check each provider.

Spotify student Germany price and subscriptions

Spotify student Germany price is €6.99 a month, almost half of Premium Individual at €12.99.

Service Student price Notes
Spotify Premium Student €6.99 18+, SheerID, up to 4 years
Apple Music Student €6.99 Cannot be shared via Family Sharing
YouTube Premium Student €8.99 Re-checked every year
Amazon Prime Student 6 months free, then €4.49 Half the normal €8.99
Netflix No student plan Standard with ads from €6.99
Disney+ No standing student plan Temporary deals via Student Beans

Amazon Prime Student Germany

Amazon Prime Student Germany starts with a 6-month free trial, then costs €4.49 a month or €44.90 a year, half the normal Prime price. Amazon lists students, apprentices, and young adults aged 18 to 24 as eligible. If you are over 24, check eligibility during sign-up before relying on it (amazon.de/joinstudent).

News subscriptions

Major German papers sell reduced student or under-30 digital subscriptions: DIE ZEIT, DER SPIEGEL, F.A.Z., and Süddeutsche Zeitung all have one. Prices and age rules differ; check each publisher's student page. Your university library often provides free access too.

My BahnCard 25 under 27 and train travel

My BahnCard 25 under 27 costs €39.90 a year in second class, against €62.90 normally. It gives 25% off Flexpreis and Sparpreis tickets.

Card or fare Price Age Discount
My BahnCard 25 €39.90 (2nd), €81.90 (1st) Under 27 25% off Flex and Spar
My BahnCard 50 €79.90 (2nd), €241 (1st) Under 27 50% off Flexpreis, 25% off Sparpreise
Super Sparpreis Young from €4.99 Up to 26 ICE and IC/EC, train-bound
Sparpreis Young from €16.99 Up to 26 Train-bound

BahnCard discounts stack with Young fares. Your age is checked on board. Local and regional trains are already in your Deutschlandsemesterticket if your university has one (semester ticket guide). Interrail Youth covers ages 12 to 27 for trips across Europe.

Culture, sport, and food

Museums: student prices with a student ID are standard. Example: Munich's Pinakotheken charge students €6 instead of €9 at the Alte Pinakothek, and every Sunday costs €1 (Pinakotheken).

Opera, ballet, concerts: many cities run under-30 or student schemes. Example: Berlin's ClassicCard (under 30) sells opera and ballet tickets for €18 in advance and €13 last-minute (classiccard.de).

Cinema: student discounts are often small (around €1). A weekly cinema day (Kinotag) is often cheaper for everyone.

Sport: Hochschulsport (university sport) offers hundreds of courses each semester to enrolled students, usually far cheaper than a gym. Commercial memberships such as Urban Sports Club had no student plan when checked.

Mensa: university canteens price meals in three tiers: students, staff, guests. Example from Munich on 4 October 2026: StudiTopf €1.00 for students vs €3.90 for guests, main dishes €2.95 to €5.25. Student prices often apply only to students of universities in that region.

Banking and mobile

Offer Student benefit Age limit
Deutsche Bank Junges Konto No monthly fee Up to 30
Commerzbank StartKonto Free current account Until 28th birthday
Telekom MagentaMobil Young About 50% cheaper Under 28
Vodafone GigaMobil Young Young tariffs Under 28
O2 Young 30 GB+ from €14.99 18 to 28

Young tariffs need only proof of age, not enrolment. Prepaid SIMs are often cheaper still: compare in prepaid SIM and payments. Account setup steps: Girokonto after Anmeldung.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to verify with a Zulassung instead of the enrolment certificate
  • Missing the yearly re-verification and paying full price silently
  • Buying a BahnCard 25 for routes your semester ticket already covers
  • Signing up for a free trial and forgetting to cancel
  • Assuming age-based offers end at graduation (many end at 27 or 28 instead)
  • Buying a new laptop at the education price when refurbished is cheaper
